Brief Description: Students will create a comic to demonstrate their understanding of a topic of their choice. They will conduct basic research for this project.

Know Before You Start: Students will go through the steps of selecting, researching, and sharing the information they learn about the self-selected topic. You can customize the research requirements to meet your goals.

Hook:

  • Share a photo or video of something you are passionate about.   

  • Read and discuss the sample Comic 1.

    • Explain that passion projects are a way to find out about a topic of interest that you may share with others.

Activity:

  • Display sample Comic 2, and explain the steps of this research project. 

  • Students will work through the steps over several days to complete their comics.

Closure:

  • Allow students to share their comics with students, parents, or community members.

Differentiation:

  • Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature.
  • Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
  • Provide a list of ideas as needed.

  • Print out sample Comic 2 for students to reference.
