Know Before You Start:

Students will need a basic understanding of antonyms prior to starting the lesson.

Prior to the lesson, choose 3-5 selected vocabulary terms from current lessons. The terms must be words that have opposites.

Hook:

Read and discuss Comic 1 with the class. How does the comic demonstrate the word ancient and the word modern, its opposite? How does recognizing the antonym of a word help us better understand the meaning of a word?

Share Comic 2 with the class.

Ask students to think of words and their antonyms and share with a partner.
Activity:

Use 3-5 key vocabulary terms from a current lesson.

Using the sample comics as a guide, have students create a 2 panel comic to illustrate their understanding of the vocabulary term and its opposite meaning for each vocabulary word.

2 Panels: Vocabulary Word & Antonym.
Closure: Display the created vocabulary and antonym comics as a quick review.
