Hook:

  • Read and discuss sample Comic 1.

    • Have you ever felt overwhelmed with too much school work or chores?

    • Have you ever fallen behind in something and didn’t know how to catch up?  

  • Discuss some of the ways students have tried to be more successful with time management.

Activity:

  • Read and discuss sample Comic 2.

  • Have students choose one of the time management strategies to use for an entire week. 

  • Have each student create a comic explaining a time management strategy including a few steps they can use to implement the strategy, e.g., for the “Use a timer” strategy;  students can write down:

    • “Get a timer from the store.”

    • “Try 20 minute increments and increase time if needed.”

    • “Take 10 minute breaks in between focus periods.”

    • “Ask my mom to remind me to set the timer at home for homework.”

Closure:

  • Have students discuss their comics and reflect on the following:

    • What went well with the time-management tool? Why? 

    • What was challenging with the time-management tool? Why? 

    • Why is time management important for me?

Differentiation:

  • Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature.
  • Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
  • Print out the example comic for individual students.

  • Use the Think-Pair-Share strategy during whole group discussion.

  • Allow students to work in pairs or groups as needed.

  • Provide a list of time management strategies.
