Comic 1

Comic 2

Hook:

  • Read and discuss sample Comic 1.

    • Have you ever felt overwhelmed with too much school work or chores?

    • Have you ever fallen behind in something and didn’t know how to catch up?

  • Discuss some of the ways students have tried to be more successful with time management.

Activity:

  • Read and discuss sample Comic 2.

  • Have students choose one of the time management tips to use for an entire week.

  • Have the class write down which tip they are going to focus on and a few steps they can take to prepare for the tool they are practicing. E.g., for the “Use a timer” tip;  students can write down:

    • “Get a timer from the store.”

    • “Try 20 minute increments and increase time if needed.”

    • “Take 10 minute breaks in between focus periods.”

    • “Ask my mom to remind me to set the timer at home for homework.”

  • Collect the papers for the post reflection the following week.

Closure:

  • Return papers back to the students after a week.

  • Have them create a reflection comic about what it was like practicing their time management tool.  Use the following prompts:

    • What went well with the time-management tool? Why?

    • What was challenging with the time-management tool? Why?

    • Why is time management important for me?

Differentiation:

  • Print out the example comic for individual students.

  • Use the Think-Pair-Share strategy during whole group discussion.

  • Allow students to work with a partner to develop their goal.
