Hook:

  • Show several entertaining “Tweets” to demonstrate how they summarize a central idea. Explain that tweets have a character limit.

Activity:

  • Have students read the informational text and write three Tweets summarizing the central ideas of the article.
  • Have students illustrate their Summary Tweets by creating a comic demonstrating the central ideas of the text.

Closure:

  • Have students share their comics in small groups and discuss the central ideas of the informational text.

Differentiation:

  • Preteach vocabulary.

  • Provide sentence starters as needed.

  • Provide informational articles at various reading levels.

  • Allow students to work with a peer model.

  • Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
