At least two informational texts about a topic will be needed for students to read and analyze.
Hook:

Read and discuss the sample Cause/Effect comic. How did the oil spill cause the effect?

Share an informational text passage with students and model examples of cause/effect within the passage.
Activity:

Provide students with the second informational text and ask them to read with a partner.

Students will find examples of cause/effect within the text.

Using the sample comic as a guide, have students create a two-panel comic demonstrating their understanding of a cause/effect event from the text.
Closure: Meet with students and confer with them about their cause/effect examples.

Provide a list of common cause/effect signal words.

Allow students to use speech-to-text feature as needed.
