**Subject: Math**

**Lesson Length: 35 - 45 mins**

**Topic: Expressions and Equations**

**Brief Description:**
In this lesson, students will learn to write and evaluate matching expressions and exponential form involving whole-number exponents.

**Know Before You Start:**
Students should be familiar with simple whole-number exponents.

**Hook:**
Read and discuss the sample comic. Solve each expression.

**Activity:**
It’s time to demonstrate your exponential understanding in a comic!

- Using the sample comic as a guide, have students create a four-panel “Exponent” comic.
**Panel 1**: Students will present an expression of a whole-number exponent and its exponential form.**Panel 2**: Students will provide the answer for the expression.**Panel 3**: Students will present a second expression of a whole-number exponent and its exponential form.**Panel 4**: Students will provide the answer for the expression.

**Closure:**

- Have students share their comics with the class and explain how they solved each expression.

**Differentiation:**

- Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature.
- Allow students to work in pairs or groups as needed.
- Allow students to use a calculator or multiplication chart.
- Adjust the level of difficulty based on student needs.

**Resources:**

- Comic to print or display
- Calculators to check work, if permitted
