Know Before You Start: This would be a great rounding review lesson.

Hook:

  • Read and discuss the sample comic. Discuss and demonstrate how the number in each panel has been rounded.

Activity:

  • Write a four or five digit number on the board.

  • Assign different groups of students different place values to round to. Have students share the answers with the class.

  • Using the sample comic as a guide, have students create a five-panel comic in which they will round a number in the 10 or 100 thousands to each place value, one in each panel.

Closure:

  • Have students share their comic with a partner to check their work.

Differentiation:

  • Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature.
  • Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
  • Print out the sample comic as a reference.

  • Provide visual representation for rounding to each place value.
