Brief Description: Students will learn to represent numbers in different ways by creating a number comic. 

Know Before You Start: Students should have a basic understanding of numbers up to 1000, and expanded notation.

Hook:

  • Read and discuss the sample comic. Is the student correct? 

  • In pairs, have students find other ways to show 822. They may use numbers or pictures. Have them share their answers with the class.

  • Show students how to write 822 in expanded notation. 

Activity:

  • List several numbers on the board.

  • Using the sample comic as a guide, have students create a comic depicting one of the numbers in a different way. 

Closure:

  • Share and discuss student comics with the class.
    • Are there any other ways to depict the numbers shown in each comic? 

Differentiation:

  • Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature as needed.
  • Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
  • Provide a visual resource for students to represent numbers in a new way.
