Hook:
- Ask students:
- “What does the Remainder Theorem state?” (When a polynomial p(x) is divided by a linear polynomial (x - a), the remainder is p(a)).
- “Why is it useful?”
- “How can the Remainder Theorem save time?”
Activity:
- Have students discuss the Remainder Theorem.
- Have students review examples of using the Remainder Theorem to find values of polynomials and use these examples to create their own polynomials to use.
- Have students create a comic that illustrates the Remainder Theorem with their polynomial.
Closure:
- Have students share their comics with the class or in small groups.
- Have students explain why they chose the visual images used in their comic.
- Have students discuss why it’s important to be able to communicate mathematical ideas in visual form.
- Discuss alternate ways of explaining mathematical principles.
- Emphasize that being able to clearly communicate mathematical ideas helps build communication and critical thinking skills.
Differentiation:
- Allow students to use the speech-to-text feature.
- Allow students to work in pairs or groups as needed.
- Allow students to use the voiceover feature to read their comics aloud.
- Students may have varying degrees of complexity in their polynomials.
